In my parish I’m the president of the pastoral council. I’m also one of the coordinators of the Family Catechism program. I’m also a catechist, a lector, and an extraordinary minister of holy communion. In some of these roles I am the leader. In others I am not.
“There are times and situations in which [leaders] should be accountable, even subordinate, to the people they lead.” ~ Patrick Lencioni
It is not difficult for me to take off the boss hat when it is not time to wear it. I never stop leading. Even as a subordinate I can lead my fellow ministers and even my superiors by my example. They can do they same for me. But the point is that it’s important to be able to distinguish between the two.
You’ve got to know when to lead and when to follow. Learning this invaluable lesson is essential to becoming a good leader.
Question: Do you know when to lead and when to follow? Or do you find it difficult to take off the boss hat?
